Understanding your car's battery requirements
A modern car is not one you can put any battery into. Four things have to match, and three of them are invisible from outside the bonnet.
Most cars built in the last decade manage their battery. Many European and premium models run an intelligent battery sensor on the negative terminal that reports charge and health to the engine computer, which then decides how hard the alternator works. Japanese, Korean and American cars with stop-start do a simpler version of the same thing. Fit the wrong battery, or one the car does not know about, and that control works from a wrong picture.
The result is not a warning light on day one. It is a battery that is chronically overcharged or undercharged, ages two or three times faster than it should, and fails in eighteen months instead of four years — usually with the owner blaming the battery brand.

Where is the battery in your car?
Not always under the bonnet — which is why owners of some cars conclude there is no battery at all.
Boot floor, under the load liner
Common on BMW, many Mercedes-Benz, the Audi A6 and A8 and the Porsche Cayenne. Lift the boot floor and the battery sits under a cover, usually with a vent tube to the outside.
Under a seat or floor panel
Some Mercedes-Benz, Range Rover and larger SUVs hide it under a front seat, the rear bench or a floor panel. On a Tesla the 12V battery sits in the frunk area behind a panel.
Engine bay
Where most Japanese, Korean, American and Chinese cars keep it — Toyota, Nissan, Kia, Hyundai, GMC, MG and the rest. Easy to reach, but often packed tight on V8 SUVs.
Jump points, always in the engine bay
Even when the battery is in the boot or under a seat, the car has a marked positive post and an earth point under the bonnet. Those are the only correct places to connect anything.

Signs your car battery is failing
Most modern cars warn before they die. The signs usually arrive in this order, and most owners meet three of them before the car refuses to start.

Stop-start stops working
On cars that have it, the earliest and most reliable sign. The car withdraws stop-start when charge drops, often months before a hard failure.

Slow, laboured crank
The starter turns but sounds heavy, especially on the first start of a hot afternoon. Cranking amps are the first capability a battery loses.

Comfort features drop out
Seat heating, the audio amplifier or rear-screen heating get switched off to save charge. Owners usually blame those systems.

Random unrelated warnings
Airbag, ABS, traction control and parking sensor warnings appearing together and clearing on their own is classic low-voltage behaviour, not four failed modules.

The screen reboots
The infotainment screen restarting during a start, or the clock and radio presets resetting, means voltage is dipping below what the head unit tolerates.

The car dies after standing
Fine when driven daily, flat after a week in the basement while you travel. A weak battery loses the capacity to carry the car's normal parked drain first.

Can you safely jump-start a modern car?
Yes — but only from the right two points, and not the way most people are shown at the roadside.
Do this
- Use the marked positive post or terminal in the engine bay
- Use the marked earth point or a bare engine bracket for negative
- Let the donor car run for two or three minutes before cranking
- Drive for at least thirty minutes afterwards, or put it on a charger
Never this
- Never clamp directly to a battery sensor or a boot-mounted negative post
- Never bump or roll start an automatic
- Never jump a swollen, cracked or leaking battery
- Never leave it at that — a jump start is a symptom, not a repair
On cars with a battery sensor, clamping negative straight to the battery post bypasses it. The car then measures nothing, and the surge can take the sensor with it — a cheap jump start turning into an expensive one.

B2 level, 11pm, completely dead after two weeks away. He was at the car in twenty minutes with the right battery on the van, and knew the ramp height before he arrived. Idle relearn done too.
Two other people told me I needed a new battery. He tested it, said the battery was fine and the alternator was the problem, and charged me nothing for coming. Honest people are rare.

Most Japanese, Korean and American cars do not, but still need resets such as idle relearn and window re-initialisation. Both are included in our price.
Can you get into my tower's basement parking?
Yes. Our vans are sized for height-restricted ramps, and we deal with security gates in Harbour Views every day. Tell us the tower, the level and the bay number when you call, and let security know we are coming if your building requires it.
Do you replace the 12V battery on hybrids and EVs?
Yes. Toyota and Lexus hybrids, Tesla and other EVs all have a 12V auxiliary battery. When it fails the car will not switch on, however full the main battery is. We test it and carry replacements.
How long does the replacement take?
About twenty minutes from arrival, including the load test beforehand and the registration or resets afterwards. Batteries under a seat or floor panel take a little longer.
What warranty do I get?
Up to 24 months depending on the brand you choose, registered in your name, and honoured wherever you are in Harbour Views. The paperwork is sent to you by WhatsApp the same day.
Will I lose my radio codes, seat memory or settings?
No. We connect a memory keeper through the OBD port before the old battery comes out, so the car never loses power. Seat memory, stored destinations and the clock all survive.
What if the battery turns out to be fine?
Then we say so. If the load test clears the battery and points at the alternator, a parasitic drain or something else, you get told that and the diagnosis costs you nothing.
